2021 March Red Card Event

March 12, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - March 14, 2021 @ 7:00 am

The YYCMG is hosting the annual Red Card Event for all interested groups or individuals within the Yarra Yarra Catchment region.
Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes is a community based feral animal management program that operates across the agricultural regions of Western Australia – Working together for maximum impact. More information can be obtained at www.redcard.org.au
There will be two events for 2021 – running over two weekends, the 12-13 of Feb and 12-13 of March. You are welcome to register your interest and join us for 1-day, a weekend, or both full events!
Shoots begin at sunset on the Friday and Saturday evenings of each event, and shooting is to conclude at midnight each night.
Tallies must be submitted to the local coordinator at the conclusion of each shoot for them to contribute towards your team’s total.
If you have any queries please contact landcarecoordinator@yarrayarracatchment.org.au
Registration:
– Registration closes on  March 11th, 2021. The day before each shooting event.
– Registration and participation are free.
– Registration details should include; team name, participant’s names, shoot site address.
Teams:
– All teams and individuals must be registered with the local coordinator (email landcarecoordinator@yarrayarracatchment.org.au to register) to participate, and it is free to join.
– Teams can be up to four people.
– All teams must operate on private property, with the landowner’s permission.
Conditions:
– It is imperative to note that the culling of declared pest species (such as foxes, rabbits, and cats) is not condoned by RSPCA. However, as long as the culling is done as quickly and humanely as possible, the RSPCA respects that this is an option for protecting overall biodiversity quality. The RSPCA stipulates that minimal stress is caused to the animal. Called the “shoot to kill” approach, it requires shooters to make only headshots from a stationary position using adequate calibre guns.
– It is the participant’s/landowners responsibility to dispose of corpses after the event tally.
– All pests must be laid out in a single photo, divided into animal type, and clearly identifiable. This photo must be sent to landcarecoordinator@yarrayarracatchment.org.au for the shoot to contribute towards the team’s tally.
– To score, points are allocated per feral animal;
o 20pts per feral cat (no collar)
o 10pts per fox
o 5pts per rabbit
o Deductions may be made for any native animal’s shot.
– Membership to the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (WA) is encouraged – as the SSAA WA have insurance coverage for their members. For more details go to www.ssaawa.org.au
– Individuals belonging to other community shooting clubs would need to contact their association to determine their insurance coverage.
– By law, all guns must be licensed, which means all gun-owners have safety accreditation.
– Shoots are to take place on private land only, with the landowner’s permission. All responsibility lies with the landowner.
– Liability insurance of the property covers any incidents.
– Safe and legal shooting practices are to be conducted by all participants, and this is the participant’s responsibility.
– Remember that alcohol/illicit substances, shooting, and driving don’t mix!
– After each shoot guns must be unloaded and locked in vehicles or left at home to attend breakfast muster.
Prizes:
– Winning team for each event (Feb and March) will be awarded the title of ‘Feral Pest Champion Feb 2021’ and ‘Feral Pest Champion March 2021’ and their team details will be engraved onto the YYCMG Feral Pest Champion trophy.
– Other prizes may be organised by the local coordinator – details to follow.
– If there is enough interest a Sunday morning muster may be organised for each event – with breakfast provided and awards presented.
